In trying to evaluate your players' skills when coaching youth softball, you can put in a quick phone call to the coaches your players played for last season in order to gain some insight on their strengths and weaknesses.
Some players have a tendency to think that they screwed up whenever they are softball hitting if they don't swing at pitches that the umpire calls strikes, which isn't the case at all. When a player shows patience and good eyes, she should be applauded for taking a pitch that she's not comfortable swinging at.
